Jeffrey Howard is the Associate Director for Service-Learning at the University of Michigan’s Edward Ginsberg Center for Community Service and Learning. He is the founder and editor of the Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning, a peer-reviewed publication that began with a Michigan Campus Compact venture grant, and has reached a paid circulation of about 2000, and co-editor (with Robert Rhoads, formerly of Michigan State University) of Academic Service-Learning: A Pedagogy of Action and Reflection, published by Jossey-Bass. He is a member of the National Advisory Council for Campus Compact, and the National Review Board for the Scholarship of Engagement Project. He is also a charter member of the Faculty Development Committee of Michigan Campus Compact, the first Senior Faculty Fellow for the state of Michigan as part of the Midwest Collaboration Grant, and external evaluator for a Kellogg Foundation grant. His latest publication, funded by the Corporation for National Service, is the Service-Learning Course Design Workbook, which provides a model for designing a service-learning course from start to finish; there are more than 6,000 copies in circulation.
